PYNNS BROOK, N.L. – One man was killed and three people taken to hospital Tuesday after a collision between a car and an ambulance in western Newfoundland.

RCMP say the accident happened on the Trans-Canada Highway in the area of Pynn’s Brook, about 13 kilometres south of Deer Lake.

Police say the driver of the car, a 35-year-old Deer Lake man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His name has not yet been released.

RCMP say three people who were in the ambulance, including two medical personnel and a patient, sustained undetermined injuries.

The Mounties say they were taken to hospital for observation.
