RENNIES ROAD, P.E.I. – Police in central Prince Edward Island say a cyclist killed in a collision this weekend was from Alberta.

Police say 63-year-old Elizabeth Sovis was riding a bike with her partner Saturday evening when she was struck by a van.

They say the driver, a 49-year-old local man, has been charged with impaired driving causing death and is expected to appear in court this afternoon.

RCMP say he initially left the scene of the crash in Rennies Road, an unincorporated area in Queens County, but returned shortly afterwards.

They say he was arrested at the scene and underwent a breathalyzer test.

His name has not been released.
