HALIFAX – Police say a 30-year-old man was killed early today when he lost control of his car and plunged into a Halifax lake.
Police say a witness saw the car cross the centre line, strike the curb and a power pole, and then veer into Lake Banook just after midnight.
The witness tried to save the man by going into the lake, smashing out a car window and pulling the victim out.
But police say he was seriously injured in the crash and was pronounced dead at hospital a short time later.
He was alone in the car at the time.
Police are investigating, but believe speed is a factor.
