Mayor Dave Bronconnier may seek another three-year term when the next municipal election rolls around in 2010, but the jury is out amongst Calgarians whether he’s done enough to earn it.
Marianne Lemke thinks it’s time for Bronconnier to hit the bricks and should take a few current aldermen with him.
“He’s just not practical enough,” Lemke said. “He plays far too fast and loose with taxpayers’ money and I don’t think he earned his second or third term, so why give him a fourth?”
Media reports swirled Thursday that Bronconnier would seek a fourth term. Mount Royal political scientist Keith Brownsey said the mayor must indicate that he’s running again or risk abolishing his effectiveness in the city’s highest office.
“He has to say he’ll run again or he’ll be seen as a lame duck,” said Brownsey, who figures the mayor is in the midst of his final term.
