WinSport Canada is considering selling some of the 440 acres it owns at Canada Olympic Park to build a new sporting facilities for athletes.

The maple leaf could soar to new athletic heights if a development deal at Canada Olympic Park is given the green light.

That’s according to WinSport Canada, owners of the storied winter sporting site, which is proposing to part ways with some land for commercial and retail development.

The funds gained from the project would then be put back into the existing sport facilities as well as pave the way for new sites, said representative Brendon Arnold.

“We are trying to help sport in anyway we can,” he said.

“This is going to help up-and-coming athletes, developing athletes with support from WinSport Canada.”

Arnold said WinSport will maintain control over what types of establishments settle at COP, with the focus remaining on promoting healthy and active living.

An estimate of how much revenue could be generated through the proposal was not available yesterday.

WinSport will be hosting an open house to discuss the proposal from 5-8 p.m. at Canada Olympic Park’s festival tent Tuesday. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
