Bolstering Calgary’s downtown Plus 15 network will be a hot agenda topic this summer if a local real estate advocacy group has anything to say about it.
The Building Owners and Managers Association of the Greater Calgary Region met with city officials last week and intends to go before a standing committee with proposals to improve the network in July, said Bill Partridge, executive vice-president.
He regards the Plus 15 system, which allows downtown travellers to cross between buildings using a set of enclosed bridges, as “the most extensive, highly developed system of its sort on the continent,” but said improvements could be made – namely with security and signage.
“For some people it’s a mystery, for others it’s fearful and for others it’s totally utilitarian,” Patridge said. “When you get inside a building, it can be very disorienting.”
Andrea Green found herself a little puzzled while trying to navigate between buildings using the Plus 15 yesterday afternoon.
“I think they’re great but I find there’s not a lot of signage,” she said. “That would definitely help.”
Patridge could not shed much light on the proposals his group will bring forward this summer but said discussions are ongoing.
“This is going to happen quite quickly,” he said.
