Metro/file photo The Calgary Zoo fully re-opened in November, five months after it was rocked by June's historic flood.

In an effort to set a new record for yearly attendance, the Calgary Zoo is offering Calgarians a little incentive to come through the gates.

Zoo officials say they are trying to set a record of 1.4 million people through the gates in 2012 — a number that would smash the 24-year-old record of 1,332,024 people set in 1988 during the Winter Olympics and the giant panda exhibit.

Currently, the 2012 numbers are at 1,354,488.

On Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., visitors will get a zoo admission price of $1.43, while regular Zoolights admission applies after 2 p.m.
