Commuters are asked to pair up during next week’s 10th annual Carpool Week.
From Oct. 15-19, the Alberta Motor Association, Calgary Parking Authority and Nexen Inc., along with Carpool.ca are offering prizes to carpoolers.
“Apart from lessening our impact on the environment, carpooling makes good economic sense for motorists,” says Ron Schafer, Transportation Demand Management Specialist with The City of Calgary.
“At a time when people are really trying to watch their pennies, carpooling is an easy way to reduce costs on fuel, parking and vehicle maintenance.”
By visiting carpool.ca, Calgarians can win prizes by doing things like registering as a new member or sharing an inspiring carpool story.
Prizes can also be won on the Carpool Facebook page, or by following @CarpoolDotCA on Twitter.
“It’s important to note that carpooling doesn’t require a large commitment,” says Anne Marie Thornton, manager of Carpool.ca.
“Our desire to save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions tends to be secondary to our need for convenience, so consider carpooling once or twice a week to start.”
Since the website was launched, more than 14,000 Calgarians have used the system.
