Five hundred and one goals, 541 assists, four and a half seasons without missing a single game and two Olympic gold medals.
But it appears all of Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla’s accomplishments have done little to impress some of his hockey-playing peers, who place him among the most overrated athletes in the National Hockey League (NHL), according to a new Sports Illustrated poll.
A total of 161 NHL skaters were surveyed and results placed Iginla at 12th most overrated.
“You look at his list of achievements and almost certain induction into the Hall of Fame, it’s hard to believe you can call him overrated,” said QR77 sports director Mark Stephen.
“Some folks don’t know what they’re doing as far as I am concerned.”
Iggy was joined on the less-than flattering top-15 list by fellow Flame Jay Bouwmeester, number eight and Olli Jokinen, number 14.
“I am surprised by Iginla, but not Jokinen or Bouwmeester,” said diehard fan Kelsey Hipkin. “I have met the guy (Iginla). He’s a great guy, a great player and a great ambassador for the city.”
