Four members of an Edmonton family are dead following a head-on crash just north of Barriere, B.C. in the province’s interior Wednesday night.
RCMP said a 47-year-old man, 37-year-old woman, seven-year-old boy and three-year-old girl were travelling in an SUV on Highway 5 when they lost control and slid into an oncoming tractor trailer around 8:30 p.m.
The family was en route from Edmonton to California, police said.
The victims have yet to be publicly identified.
“We did earlier today confirm identification, but the next of kin are all believed to be overseas,” regional coroner Mark Coleman said Thursday. “The Edmonton police are trying to track them down.”
Road conditions were icy at the time, which RCMP said is typical for the area at this time of year.
The driver of the trailer suffered minor injuries.
The crash closed Highway 5 for several hours
