Citing a rash of ecstasy-related deaths in Calgary and its surrounding area recently, city council voted to back an addiction education project Tuesday.
The $150,000 initiative will focus on getting the anti-drug message out at bars and other locations.
Support for the project was not unanimous, passing by a 9-5 margin.
Some aldermen reportedly questioned whether fighting drug use should fall on the shoulders of the municipality and urged for further consultation with Alberta Health Services and other groups.
