Mayor Naheed Nenshi said he would like to see the garbage-dump fire burning on the Tsuu T’ina First Nation under control as soon as possible.

“There’s been a lot of strange information about what’s actually happening out there,” Nenshi told reporters. “For awhile it sounded like it was a controlled burn, now it sounds like it is not.”

Nenshi said Tsuu T’ina Chief Sandford Big Plume has been in touch with the mayor’s office to keep him informed.

He said the Calgary Fire Department has offered assistance and is working with the Tsuu T’ina to control the fire that began Wednesday.

“Frankly, I’m just interested in cleaning up the air wafting over south Calgary as quickly as we can.
