Calgary police have decided to withdraw a ticket issued to a pro-life demonstrator over the weekend.
Carrying graphic images of what they claim to be aborted fetuses, members with the Canadian Centre for Bioethical Reform were demonstrating near Chinook Centre Saturday when a police officer approached and demanded they put their signs away.
Group leader Francisco Gomez refused and was issued a ticket. The group’s materials were also seized but have since been returned.
“The Calgary Police Service fully recognizes the fundamental freedoms of thought, belief, opinion, expression and of peaceful assembly, as outlined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms,” a statement released Thursday said.
