C-Train driver Mauro D’Orazio said when he comes to work everyday, his goal is to safely get people to work in the morning and home in the evening.
That doesn’t always happen.
On Aug. 30, D’Orazio was steering a train along the northeast line when a 36-year-old man walked in front and was subsequently struck and killed.
“It’s hard to talk about it,” said D’Orazio pausing as he’s asked to recall what happened that day.
Following two C-Train-pedestrian collisions in two days ‘ one of which resulted in the death of a 49-year-old woman ‘ D’Orazio said he’s been reminded of the incident he was involved in.
“Every time you have an accident ‘ the other day, today ‘ you really feel it because you start to live through it all over again.”
D’Orazio has since returned to work but said it’s still a struggle that’s only exacerbated by pedestrians frequently crossing in front of trains.
“Pretty much every time you come down (7th) Avenue, someone is going to jaywalk in front of you,” he said. “One guy got hit but everybody suffered. I’m suffering”
