For Metro/Candice Ward Police shut down three homes in an alleged drug trafficking operation in the 1400 block of 43 Street northeast on Aug. 23.

“We were all kind of held prisoner in our own homes and now that it is shut down, we can sleep at night,” said a resident of the block, who wished to remain nameless.

The tip came in from a resident of the block on Aug. 10, who was acting on behalf of the community, after residents were noticing more suspicious activity taking place between the three homes.

The execution of the search warrant turned up crack cocaine in one of the three homes, and codeine, morphine and Oxycodone in the others, along with cash and various weapons.

All three homes are believed to be connected to the same activity.

“In my 15 years as an officer, I have never seen three residences in the same block charged in drug trafficking,” said Const. Amy Bates, community liaison officer.

“It almost became a one-stop shop.”
