Metro/File photo Calgary drivers can now send a text message to start and stop a parking session.

Calgary drivers now have a new way to start and end a parking session, all from the palms of their hands.

The Calgary Parking Authority announced Wednesday the launch of Text to Park, which will allow ParkPlus cellphone customers to text the zone number they’re parked in to 77587 (PPLUS).

When they text the zone number, the ParkPlus system will send a confirmation text, and will also notify them when their parking session is about to expire. The session can also be ended by texting the same zone number to the same number.

“Text to Park is a great new feature to the ParkPlus System and makes activating and deactivating a parking session even easier for Calgarians,” said Troy McLeod, CPA general manager.

“We’re continuing to look for new ways to use technology to make parking faster and more convenient for our customers.”

To sign up for a ParkPlus cellphone account, customers can go to parkplus.ca.

Currently, there are nearly 44,000 ParkPlus cell phone accounts activated.
