Candice Ward/for Metro Scott Hennig, Alberta Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, unveils a new billboard on northbound 14th Street and 10th Avenue southwest Wednesday, aimed at reforming the lavish MP pension plan.

New billboards in five Canadian cities, including Calgary, are aiming to alert Canadians on how much they are really putting into the MP’s pockets.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) launched their new billboard campaign Wednesday to inform Canadians that for every dollar MP’s put into their pension funds, the taxpayers put in $24.

“It’s time to fix these outrageous platinum-plated pension plans for our federal politicians,” said Gregory Thomas, Federal Director.

“Taxpayers are fed up with footing the bill for pensions that are among the most lavish in Canada.”

The CTF is hoping taxpayers will be encouraged by the billboards to start putting pressure on their MP’s to reform this plan in the fall.

“We know the government is planning to modify the MP pension plan this fall, and we want to make sure it’s a full-blown overhaul and not just a minor tinker,” said Thomas.

The CTF is looking for an even dollar-for-dollar contribution.

Similar billboards were also put up in Vancouver, Regina, Ottawa, and Halifax.

Canadians can text “TAX” to 212121, to sign the CTF’s petition, email the Prime Minister and learn more about the MP pension plan.
