This Canada Day, Calgarians will not only be honouring the flag, they’ll be part of it.
The first 1,000 people to come to Prince’s Island Park on July 1 will be given a red or white shirt to become part of a living Canadian flag.
Event coordinator with the City of Calgary Jody Williams said the living flag has been done in several other Canadian cities.
“We thought it would be quite a fun thing to bring to Calgary,” she said.
The day will kick off at 10:15 a.m. at the Enmax Stage with the hopes of having the living flag in place before the singing of O Canada at 11:30 a.m.
Flag fun:
- There will be a lift at the park to take overhead photos of the flag.
- Groups of 10 or more interested in participating can email canadaday@calgary.ca.
- The City is expecting around 150,000 Calgarians at the Canada Day celebration.
Winnipeg had a living Canadian flag during last year’s Canada Day celebrations:
