Metro Despite controversies in the National Assembly, a new poll suggests Quebecers are fans of the Maple Leaf.

This Canada Day, Calgarians will not only be honouring the flag, they’ll be part of it.

The first 1,000 people to come to Prince’s Island Park on July 1 will be given a red or white shirt to become part of a living Canadian flag.

Event coordinator with the City of Calgary Jody Williams said the living flag has been done in several other Canadian cities.

“We thought it would be quite a fun thing to bring to Calgary,” she said.

The day will kick off at 10:15 a.m. at the Enmax Stage with the hopes of having the living flag in place before the singing of O Canada at 11:30 a.m.

Flag fun:

  • There will be a lift at the park to take overhead photos of the flag.
  • Groups of 10 or more interested in participating can email canadaday@calgary.ca.
  • The City is expecting around 150,000 Calgarians at the Canada Day celebration.

Winnipeg had a living Canadian flag during last year’s Canada Day celebrations:
