Martin Parnell

Martin Parnell has only played netball once before but, after 61 hours of straight play next month, he’ll likely get the hang of it.

The Cochrane man, known for completing 250 marathons last year, is now reaching for a new goal all in the name of raising funds for Right to Play.

He, along with 23 others, will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest game of netball.

“It has all the elements of an endurance race, which I’m used to.”

Along with netball, Parnell said he plans to continue to challenge world records in other sports to continue raising money.

“Over sort of a five-year period, I want to raise $1 million for Right to Play,” he said, adding he already raised more than $300,000 during Marathon Quest 250.

Fellow participant and local AMP 90.3 radio personality Buzz Bishop said he’s ready for the challenge. “I have ‘set a Guinness record’ on my bucket list!” he said.
