Buses will soon be more cyclist friendly.

Calgary Transit has run as many as six pilot projects over the years where bike racks were installed on buses for a few select routes, but numerous logistical issues emerged, said manager of planning Neil McKendrick.

“Bike racks add about 18 inches to the length of a bus,” he said. “So when you stack up a row of bike-equipped buses … suddenly you don’t have room (in a parking garage).”

McKendrick added that use of the racks by cyclists was sporadic.
