Building momentum was the main message at yesterday’s Calgary Economic Development 2011 Report to the Community, delivered yesterday.
Last year, the City of Calgary was able to remain resilient during the economic downturn and 2011 is about keeping that movement going, according to Bruce Graham, president and CEO of Calgary Economic Development.
“We need to build on our strength and energy,” said Graham.
Part of that momentum involves cultivating international relationships, which is the impetus behind Mayor Naheed Nenshi travelling to China later this week.
“Calgary is an increasingly global city and there are a lot of international opportunities for us,” said Nenshi, adding this is his first international trip as mayor.
People from small and medium-sized companies within Calgary will be making the trip as well.
“I suspect there’s going to be a lot of good work being done. It’s the largest trade delegation in Calgary’s history.”
