Local Calgarians are taking their efforts to help victims of the Slave Lake wildfires to the next level by giving their time and energy to personally collect and deliver donations.

Antonie Harris, a 19-year-old native of the small town, is accepting donations of all kinds – clothes, diapers, toys – to take to those who fled their homes and are now in shelters all across Alberta.

He also plans to help in Slave Lake once highways reopen.

“Hopefully, in situations like this, people will come together to help out locally and maybe even nationally,” Harris said.

Sean Mackidd, who used to work close to Slave Lake, is also collecting basic necessities to take to shelters.

He is looking for donations, but also for volunteers to go to shelters with him.

“There are families who have lost everything. We’re trying to make their lives more comfortable,” Mackidd said.

To make a donation contact, Harris can be reached at (403) 862-7123 and Mackidd can be reached at (403) 797-1079.
