A visual arts display, followed by a two-hour cabaret-style presentation and a dance party closing will make up Saturday’s Q the Arts, Calgary’s first Queer Arts & Culture Festival.

The single-evening event, organized by Fairytales Presentation Society, will feature 11 multidisciplinary artists from across Canada.

Organizer Jessica Dollard said the goal was to highlight artists who identify themselves as LGBTTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit and questioning).

Calgary artist Julie Orton will be performing two monologues as part of the festival.

“I think a festival like this is not only a long time coming but is really essential for not only the Calgary queer community but for the Calgary arts community,” said Orton.

Tickets can be bought at www.fairytalesfilmfest.com  for $20 or for $25 at the door.  The event will be held at the Arrata Opera Centre, and doors will open at 7:00 p.m.
