The Calgary Tower is looking for some good art.

The observation deck and lobby of the Calgary Tower will soon be getting dressed up with the addition of art displays featuring local talent.

While still in the selection process, the management company of the tower has proposed what it is calling The Calgary Tower Art Partnership. It will make display space available to a local organization that will provide new art approximately every three months.

Scott Hutcheson, CEO of the property owner of the tower, was pleasantly surprised by the response the partnership has attracted from Calgary arts groups and indicated art institutes.

Visual and performance arts groups have also come forward with proposals, he said.

While a concrete timeline is still unknown, Hutcheson is hopeful new art will be on display sometime this quarter.

“The arts are important to our community and often get overlooked,” said Hutcheson.  “Arts organizations and local artists should be displayed, and this is an easy way to do that – to profile them very quickly and get them some exposure.”

Hutcheson added that with nearly 200,000 visitors each year, the tower can effectively promote Calgary’s culture through this partnership.
