The devastating effects of climate change take centre stage tonight at a University of Calgary film screening. There Once Was An Island follows the Polynesian community of Takuu as it watches tidal flooding rip through its low-lying atoll and leave the area’s livability in question. The film follows three characters as they contemplate moving to a new community or staying to fight for survival on the land they have called home for so long. The film has earned countless festival awards and positive reviews from around the globe. Tonight’s screening gets underway at 7:30 inside That Empty Space. Admission is free for students, $10 for everyone else. Visit moviesthatmatter.org for more.
