EDMONTON – Alberta’s Liberals are promising that today’s toddlers would eventually go to university in a tuition-free province.

Party leader Raj Sherman says his party would immediately reduce tuition by $250 a year if it forms government in the April 23 election.

He says tuition would then be phased out until it is gone by 2025.

His team would pay for this by taking a percentage of oil and natural gas revenues and investing them in a trust fund that would eventually be self-supporting.

Sherman says tuition costs and debt loads are one of the highest hurdles to universal post-secondary education.

The tuition break was first announced by the Liberals in February, when they came out with their policy book.
