True to its name, the recently opened Mélange Restaurant and Gastro Lounge in the downtown core offers a mixture of dishes. Expect salads, burgers, grilled cheese, crepes and daily entree specials. Melange’s differentiating factor is small plates carried around by servers, in a dim sum style.
My date ordered the “classic” crepadilla – savoury crepes stuffed with ingredients typically found in a quesadilla. It was stuffed with cheese and chicken, topped with salsa and guacamole ($13) and quite good.
I ordered the “grown-up” grilled cheese with gruyere, prosciutto, arugula and tomato ($13). The sandwich arrived open-faced. It lacked the gooey, comforting richness of a closed sandwich. Also, the bread was fairly standard loaf bread.
Only one round of “dim sum” came to our table ($3), a blini topped with mixed peppers. It was tasty but I would have liked to see more selection. Still hungry, we ended with a side of delicious, thick cut fries ($5).
