The Halifax Rainmen know the odds are stacked against them, but they don’t plan to go quietly.
The Rainmen, up against the defending champion Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry, trail the Premier Basketball League’s best-of-three semifinal 1-0 and are facing elimination tonight at 9:05 p.m. in Oklahoma.
Despite a one-point overtime loss in Game 1, the Rainmen haven’t forgotten they led for most of the game before a last-second slip-up cost them a win.
“We know we can beat this team,” said Rainmen forward Josh Dollard. “There are little mistakes here and there that we can cut down on, but this team can be beat.”
The Cavs have won seven of eight meetings with the Rainmen — including all three this season — and are riding a 33-game winning streak at home.
But the Rainmen delivered in their last must-win game — clinching a playoffs spot in the regular-season finale with an overtime win over the Saint John Mill Rats — and believe they can do it again.
“We’re tough-minded,” said Rainmen point guard Taliek Brown. “It’s going to be tough, but we’ve just got to get out there and play hard.”
