I never understood the appeal of a meatball sandwich. Meatballs, sauce and mozzarella on a sub. Sounds boring. But done right, it’s comfort food heaven.
Parma Ravioli is famous for its homemade pasta and meatball sandwiches.
Surrounded by olive oil bottles, we grabbed one of the few two-person tables to dine-in at this busy lunch establishment.
While I waited for my sub, I watched the chefs in the back slap out the pasta, browsed through the variety of Italian dishes ready to take home and picked up a meat lasagna for dinner.
Tucking in, the fresh, crusty roll was filled with perfectly sized and seasoned meatballs and just the right amount of sauce. Not drowning, but just enough to wet the meatballs and provide texture. The sauce could have been brighter in flavour, but it was tomato-y.
This sub has rolled onto my comfort food list.
