As Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak arrived at the Allstream Centre to speak at BILDs annual industry luncheon a few weeks ago, he tweeted something that, in my opinion, is well worth re-tweeting. I don’t know if it counts as a re-tweet in print, but in 140 characters or less Hudak said “About to speak to @bildgta about the Canadian value of home ownership, reducing red tape, job creation.”
Picking up on the fact that it’s BILDs 90th anniversary year, Hudak stated “If there’s one thing that’s remained a constant over your 90 years advocating on behalf of builders and developers – it’s our shared belief in the Canadian value of home ownership.
“A home is a place of comfort and security. It’s a place to raise our children. And it is also the single biggest investment most of us will make in our lifetime.
“As families build equity in their homes, that investment triggers other economic activity through renovations, additions or even the purchase of a new home. Sadly, however, the dream of home ownership is slipping away for many young families.
“I want to fight for those hard working families who are playing by the rules, who are paying all of their bills, but are falling further and further behind. That means keeping the dream of home ownership within the reach of Ontario families is vital to our economy.
“Believe me when I say you are builders of not only homes – but of cherished family memories, strong communities and strong economies. For these reasons, governments should do what they can to support the Canadian dream of home ownership."
With tweets like Hudak’s, I think I’m becoming a fan of social media.
