As my first groupon.com experience, I dropped $15 on a $30 Rose Bowl coupon and some of the best pizza in the city.

I started with a hot chocolate ($2.62), mounded with real whipped cream in its stylish mug and saucer, followed by phenomenal garlic-roasted Pavarotti bread ($9). It was eclipsed only by the bowl of meaty ragout included for dipping.

We waited nearly an hour for the massive pizza, and it was worth every minute. If you have ever tasted a large Rose Bowl Special ($29.80), heaped with a medium-sized farm’s worth of meats and vegetables, you know exactly what I mean.

I hadn’t been to the Rose Bowl since their transformation from neighbourhood pub to trendy lounge six years ago, and I admired what they had done with the place. However, as always, the friendly owners were delighted that you came by – and that pizza is perfect after nearly 30 years.
