A cute little pie shop is charming its way into the hearts of Ottawa foodies. Life of Pie offers a small lunch menu and a few bar stools along the window. Behind the counter, all manner of dough and batter is being kneaded and blended for pies and pastries and other treats.
Just after I arrived and ordered my chicken pot [hand] pie, I heard they’d already sold out of the hand pies and a few disappointed customers walked out dejected. I understand why they were sad. This hand pie was luscious. The crust was crispy, and the filling let out a burst of steam when I took a bite. Large chunks of moist chicken and pieces of carrot poked out of the pocket. No crumb was left uneaten. The vegetarian corn chowder was warming and sweet but with a touch of spice for interest.
On my way out, I picked up a frozen chicken pot pie ready to bake after an afternoon of skating on the canal. Life of Pie will be a constant craving.
