Run by the same owner of River Cafe, the more casual Boxwood highlights wholesome dishes and Alberta ingredients.

The short lunch menu features three sandwiches ($10), all on chewy house-made ciabatta. Fresh from the prominent rotisserie, moist organic chicken is dressed up with preserved lemon and basil aioli and accessorized with thick-cut tomatoes.

The spit-roasted porchetta sandwich is full of flavour, thanks to unapologetic pieces of fat (as it should be), caramelized onion and baby arugula.

Vegetarians are well-served here. Toasted pecans and a gruyere-like cheese from B.C. elevate the mixed greens ($8) with pear vinaigrette.

A perfect apple sticky toffee pudding ($7) gets sweet support from poached quince and crème fraiche.

An adorable building in Central Memorial Park, Boxwood takes the environment seriously by filtering water onsite, using recycled materials, and cutting its energy and water use.

Takeout is offered if you can’t nab a seat at the four tables or communal counters.
