Is this Kanata’s hottest little pho house? It would appear to be, given the lineup to get a table in the small, busy restaurant. Knowing what to order at any restaurant is the secret.
Unfortunately, I didn’t. The Satay Chicken Special ($9.95) written on the white board caught my eye. Chicken satay without peanuts. Though traditional Vietnamese, it was too delicate, causing me to make use of the table-side Hoisin sauce to give it some pop. Even though there weren’t enough chicken pieces hiding under all the vegetables and stuck-together flat noodles, the plate satisfied my hunger.
But I had dish envy. My lunch buddies were enjoying their choices: slurping, oohing, ahhing, and licking their bowls clean. One had the medley of BBQ pork, chicken, shrimp, and squid over crispy fried egg noodles ($9.75) and the other had the traditional big bowl of pho with shrimp and BBQ pork ($6.95).
Lesson learned. Next time I’ll order #19 or #46.
