Queen Elizabeth II inspects the Honour Guard as she arrives to take part in Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Thursday. The royal couple is on a nine-day tour of Canada.

It was a party fit for a Queen.

The presence of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, at the Canada Day festivities on Parliament Hill Thursday helped bring an estimated 350,000 people downtown, said National Capital Commission spokesman Guy Laflamme.

While Canada Day “is the nation’s party, it’s also a time that we can stop and think about the unique values and achievements we have accomplished as a nation,” he said. “This is probably as close as you get to the level of Canadian pride we experience during the Olympics.”
