The National Home Show opens tomorrow and having had the privilege of a behind-the-scenes tour of this year’s Dream Home, I am certain that show-goers are going to be absolutely wowed.

What I’m less certain of is whether it will be the home design itself or the interior design that will evoke the most reaction — both are provocative, both are edgy, both are, in a word, “cool!”

Maybe it’s the fact that the home was built by a company call Eurodale; because anything prefaced by “euro” is always good in my books. The fact that the face of Eurodale, as represented by builders Brendan Charters and Jim Cunningham, is a very young face, could also have something to do with the fresh approach to the Dream Home.

Eurodale’s collaboration with Richard Librach Architect has produced what may be the best Dream Home ever. The modular design, dubbed mod256, reflects the arrangement of ten 16 foot x 16 foot pre-fabricated building blocks. Think of Habitat at Expo ’67 and you’ll get the picture, albeit on a smaller scale.

There’s even shades of iconic architect Frank Lloyd Wright in this Dream Home with all the straight lines, cantilevered sections, natural materials and large windows to maintain the connection with the outdoors.  If you do the math on the building blocks, the Eurodale Dream Home measures out at nearly 2,600 square feet, which explains why CityLine contributed four interior designers to the project. Designers Janette Ewen, Karen Sealy, Sharon Grech and Ramsin Khachi each took a few rooms so you’ll be getting the best of each of them as you flow through the home.

Outside-in, inside-out, the 2010 Eurodale Dream Home goes way outside the box, literally and figuratively. And while the Dream Home is the main attraction to the National Home Show, there’s so much more including a special guest appearance by Ty Pennington (Friday), Mommy’s Day (Monday), Girls Night Out (next Thursday) and, of course, Destination Renovation by BILD, on throughout the Show.

The National Home Show runs tomorrow through Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place. Visit nationalhomeshow.com for more information.
