A good artist’s job isn’t just to entertain — they also have to keep their audience engaged through multiple listens. On Josh Reichmann Oracle Band’s debut the former Tangiers frontman does just that. This richly layered record covers nearly every genre imaginable, from jazz, rock and roots to psychedelic and weird unclassifiable sounds, it’s all here and often in the same song. While all this genre-bending could have been disastrous, Reichmann keeps it all together with his finely tuned pop sensibilities; the end result is one of the most engaging and complex records of the year.
