A truly bizarre vanity project, Casa de mi Padre stars Will Ferrell as a Mexican rancher battling drug dealers and DEA agents.

The joke — such as it is – is that the Anchorman star is really speaking Spanish, just like all the recognizable Latino actors in the cast – an ambitious and surreal gambit that’s more conceptually funny than scene-to-scene amusing.

The film seems destined to be a cult item, and since that’s what it was aiming for, it can be called a success.
