Canmore RCMP have apprehended a man believed to have abducted and sexually assaulted a child in Canmore.

After the Canmore RCMP had put out information relating to the whereabouts of Jorge Betancourt, 37, he was located later Thursday and taken into custody.

Betancourt has been charged with one count of abduction and one count of invitation to sexual touching after it’s alleged he pulled an eight-year-old girl into a public washroom and invited a sexual act.

The young girl managed to escape, according to police.
