I wandered into Rainbow Foods on a mission to pick up date sugar and ended up with lunch.
Offering healthy and hard-to-find ingredients, this shop also has a “fresh food department” that prepares such things as soups and brownies daily on site.
Zucchini Kale Soup was simmering in the soup pot. It was scented with cumin and curry and filled with chunks of sliced zucchini and kale. The cashier revealed that it is one of the more popular soups.
The rainbow salad was too pretty to ignore. Red cabbage, grated carrots, yellow and red peppers, and celery covered all but blue in the rainbow of veggies. It was fresh and crunchy, but in order to be perfect, it needed a dollop of dressing.
For dessert, I opted for Auntie Loo’s vegan walnut coffee cake. It was a generous square of cake that was maybe better the day it was baked.
The only items lacking at Rainbow Foods are a few tables and chairs to better enjoy this healthy feast.
