We have received confirmation that zoo animal escape drills can be added to the Everything Is Cooler In Japan file.

See, the thing about Japanese is they don’tdoanythinghalfway. So when somebody at Tokyo’s Ueno Park Zoo floated the idea of maybe holding a mock animal escape with a papier mâché rhino, at least one of them surely pounded the table and shouted, “I will have no part of this until I am ensured this rhino will have the proper contours and moveable ears!”

Because if you expect Japanese police to line up with a net and bang the pavement with sticks, you best be sure they have a reason to believe they’re banging those sticks for their very lives. All in the name of preparation for the next time a runaway rhino tries to casually stroll out of the zoo.

Legend has it that somewhere, deep in Ueno Park’s massive sprawl, there lurks one cop who thinks the animal escape is still on.
