Based on a global attempt to save three whales caught in the Arctic ice in 1988, Big Miracle combines schmaltzy, feel-good, pro-environmental fare with a surprisingly complex, entertaining cast of characters.

As the giant mammals attract international interest, everyone from activists (Drew Barrymore) to oil executives join together for the cause.

It’d all be excessively campy except for the film’s self-awareness and slight hand at delivering some genuine suspense and fun.
