My sweet waitress giggled at my attempt to wish her a happy new year before rushing back to place my order.

Instead of the popular lunch buffet, we chose a feast fit for a Dragon – after all, it was its year we started yesterday!

Our table quickly filled with succulent dishes.

I scooped pan-fried sticky rice ($9.95) on to my plate, savouring its chewy texture, and started on the crisp peach shrimp ($13.95) bathed in their sweet, creamy sauce.

Pork dumplings ($8.95) made tasty tidbits while the ginger onion beef ($9.95) – its tender strips far superior to their deep-fried brethren – left a bit of fire on my lips.

My lemon chicken ($8.95) was massively battered, yet remained crisp and light-tasting when drizzled in tangy sauce.

Under new management for only a year, Ah Chin’s Kitchen features a Filipino menu that looks almost as delectable as its Chinese fare – at a similarly low price.

However, my Dragon-sized feast was a new year’s treat. Gung hei fat choi!
