Sometimes planning an event comes about through the most unusual circumstances.

Imagine having a friend who is admitted to a hospital’s psychiatric ward after being pulled over by the police. Now imagine yet another friend finding themselves in the exact same situation.

For Hugh Simson it was a harsh reality. Although the two friends of Simson’s didn’t know each other, they did have something in common: they couldn’t shut off from work.

“Having not had time to reflect on the direction their life was headed, they both ended up with chemical imbalances within their bodies that led to their manic-like state,” shares Simson’s who admits he too has his challenges when it comes to finding a work-life balance.

His friends’ experiences forced Simson, who owns his own physiotherapy practise, to look in the mirror and make some changes.

In fact, the whole situation inspired him to start One Wellness, a spa resort in Canmore with a revolutionary approach to rejuvenating.

“We tailor our services specifically to each individual. We listen, observe breathing and assess each person’s skin and muscular cues so we can customize each service to support the release of physical and emotional tension, address imbalances and restore harmony,” says Simson of their unique approach.

“People’s expectations and interests in achieving well-being extends beyond looking great – they want to feel great too.”

But before the spa could be unveiled, Simson needed to develop his service menu, which includes a fitness component that sees 360 degrees of movement, wellness coaching, and spa services focusing on sleep, release, and joy to name a few.

Now after a year of planning every detail, Simson is ready for Calgary to come to Canmore and experience One Wellness.

“You know that feeling when everything falls into place? Life moves effortlessly and you feel in the zone?” he asks.

“It is in these moments we feel fully present and one with ourselves, our surroundings and are engaged in life. That is the feeling we wish everyone to experience here.”
