Dee Dee’s is an ice cream shop that makes a mean burrito.  This cute corner café is a north-end favourite with just two tables and a few stools in the windows.

Having established its reputation at Peggy’s Cove and the Farmers’ Market for delicious homemade ice cream, its expanded into soups, chili and corn bread, and the biggest burritos your heart and stomach desire.

I have the chicken (free-range) burrito while my pal goes for beef ($10.95 with the works). It’s heavy on the lettuce, but well stuffed with meat, cheese, beans, sour cream and rice.

We take them home and add hot sauce, regretting not having asked the friendly clerk for more.

The hot chocolate ($3) is unbelievably tasty -this day’s special is made with Venezuelan chocolate and chili.  Oh, yum.

A tub of mint chocolate chip ice cream ($7) miraculously makes its way home for an appropriately decadent finish.
