For several years, Sankyu 2 Go has offered quick sushi, maki, bento and rice bowl fixes for the downtown crowd.

I’ve heard complaints about the service or speed, but the prices are low and ordering has minimal fuss. The food, however, can be pretty incredible.

At $7.75 a plate, my tiger prawn gyoza was overpriced and my ‘yaki udon was priced far too low for its plate-filling splendour. The grilled chicken was unimpressive and the vegetables unappetizing, but the smooth – almost creamy – udon noodles, sweetened and slick with teriyaki sauce, were fantastic. The gyoza were even better, salty with soy sauce and filled to bursting with the firm flesh of enormous prawns.

I should have bubble juiced instead of having the Vitamin Water I sipped. I won’t make that mistake next time. And there should be a next time at Sankyu 2 Go – there’s still an entire sushi menu to go!
