The Halifax Mooseheads’ hot streak has landed them national recognition.
The Mooseheads, who have won nine of their past 10 games, are one of three teams to earn an honourable mention in the latest Canadian Hockey League’s weekly top-10 ranking, released yesterday. They haven’t been anywhere near the list since the 2007-08 campaign.
Sitting sixth overall in the QMJHL standings with a 12-5 record and boasting the second best winning percentage in the league (.706), coach Dominique Ducharme is imploring his team to stay level headed.
“You need to be staying humble,” Ducharme said. “It’s a long season. We’ll probably have some downs. We need to be confident in ourselves. It’s good to be confident but at the same time you need to know why you’re having success and not get away from it. But the guys are doing good with it. They don’t get too high or too low.”
The Mooseheads host the Moncton Wildcats (9-11-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Val-d’Or Foreurs (9-10-2) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Four QMJHL teams cracked this week’s CHL ranking. The Saint John Sea Dogs were second, followed by the Victoriaville Tigers (fourth), Shawinigan Cataractes (eighth) and Quebec Remparts (10th).
