Bogani, tucked beside a Sobey’s in its busy strip mall, is a perfect little neighbourhood café: Its warm interior and friendly staff encourage guests to while away the hours, nursing mochaccinos and nibbling quiche. The fact that its kind isn’t found in neighbourhoods any more is testament to our car-centred culture.

Relaxed in a comfy armchair, I bit into the crisp exterior of my warm panini ($7.25). Tender, uniform turkey slices and melted mozzarella blended with some tart cranberry sauce. Cucumber was replaced with zucchini in the Greek salad ($6.95), but included  olives and feta with a terrific dressing. My latte ($3.15) was beautifully layered and lovely to drink in its thick, see-through glass.

Best of all was the small indulgence (out of the large selection) I allowed myself. A slice of blueberry-blackberry pie, warmed and served with a scoop of vanilla, was heavenly. Drive on over and taste for yourself.
