In every neighbourhood there is an Italian market, and in Kanata you can find one at Pesto’s.
Though many delis offer an array of Italian groceries, this one focuses on the restaurant angle.
And if you get there before the lunch crowd, you might be lucky enough to get a table or a seat along the window.
Crusty, chewy rolls, a range of deli meat and a selection of cheese mean you have the fixings for a perfect sandwich.
Though simple, if the roll is too soft, the meat portion is small or the cheese is not thick enough, this delicate balance of flavours is ruined.
I ordered a ham and provolone sandwich. And though the ham was flavourful, it was overwhelmed by the thick, dense roll. Each part was good on its own, but together the combination proved disappointing.
Pesto’s is an average Italian deli that would benefit from a better sandwich artist behind the counter.
