Weary from the work week already? A cheery pub lunch is in order.
The setting: A quaint Victorian house with putty-coloured walls and a closed-in porch keeps it from feeling tavernous. And with every menu item at $10 or less, you can actually afford it.
The food: It takes guts to do a Calamari Po’ Boy ($9) and they’ve almost got it. Too bad each overcooked, rubbery ring slides outta the bun with each bite. But the toppings – pickled onions, remoulade sauce – are lively. It could really be something.
Pulled Turkey ($7.50) is an intriguing post-holiday option. With just the right amount of tang via homemade BBQ sauce, topped by a pillowy bun and paired with Hand Cut Fries ($3.50), it’s satisfying, if on the dry side.
The verdict: Service with a smile and food that suits the price. Lunchtime isn’t so dreary anymore, is it?
